We sat down with him to talk about what design really means in his life.

Q: What does design mean to you? A: For me, design is expression. As someone who struggles with traditional avenues of “art” my method of creating art is to express and design my space. Taking artists and creatives work and curating something true to me. I cannot paint or write a song to express myself but I can curate a space that makes you feel like you know everything about me.

Q: How did you get into interior design?
A: As a child I always fantasized about having my own space, whether it be a house, apartment or car. I wanted a space where I felt proud to bring people. A space that inspires others and reflects my inner most feelings. As soon as I moved out of my childhood home I discovered that I wanted every blank space in my apartment filled. The rest is history.

Q: How do you think about using design to elevate your home and the world around you?
A: I like to use my design to set an example for everyone’s outlook on accomplishing goals. I’m here to show them that, hey I’m an average 9-5 worker, struggling to pay my NYC rent. Despite that, I was able to turn my white box of an apartment into something special. No luxury brands or trends. Just thrift stores, facebook marketplace and the patience to acquire pieces over a 3 year span. I think that can apply to all aspects of life. Work with what you got, stay true to you and be patient. Do that and things start clicking.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration from?
A: My buddies at Fools Love Barbershop used to do cuts out of a tattoo shop. The gallery wall of flash art, prints, ceramics and more were so inspiring. Every piece representing a feeling, interest, memory or just a creative way to conduct their business. I love tattoo culture and have over 60 pieces myself. One of my favorite parts of getting tattooed is visiting different shops and studios, for interior inspiration.
